CUSTOM FIT

After studying numerous fit methods, in 2006 we adopted the method taught by Dr Andy Pruitt of the Boulder Center for Sports Medicine and Specialized Bicycle Components University.  Thomy and Eric have both spent several weeks studying under Dr Pruitt and the technicians at Specialized to bring comfort and speed to your ride.

A good basic fitting can make riding fun, fast, and comfortable.  A professional fitting can increase endurance, power, and comfort on any bicycle.  Over time, we can eliminate pain in the hands, wrists, shoulders, seat parts, knees, and feet.  Such pains include numbness, tingling, undue soreness, improper bruising, and unwarranted fatigue.  Fits include at least a dozen measurements and adjustments, including seat fore and aft, seat height, knee plumb line, stem length, cleat placement, shoe-bed modification, and handlebar width.  However, the most important and valuable part of the fit is the pedal stroke, form, and flexibility consultation.

The muscular and skeletal systems cannot be measured, nor form evaluated, by the rider.  Even professional riders have their fits done by experts.  Eddie Merckx, Tour de France champion, rode for two decades in extreme pain, until after his career Dr. Pruitt determined that he had a leg length discrepancy.  A simple cleat shim solved the problem.  Fitting yourself is like operating on yourself, and can prove to be dangerous if improperly done!  Fits are ongoing, meaning the customer can return for adjustments and consultation at no additional charge.

TYPES OF PROFESSIONAL FITTING

Spot Fitting (always free to any rider)

This is the fit we use to get you on a brief test ride and to ensure that you aren't in an extremely dangerous position for short commutes or light exercise of less than twenty minutes.  Allow five minutes.

Advanced Fit ($125.00, discounted for GCC and sponsored riders, or free with bike purchase)

This is our advanced 3D fit.  Anyone riding more than twenty minutes at a time, or anyone with a clipless pedal system, will benefit from this fit.  It includes saddle height, saddle fore and aft, seat angle, knee plumb line, knee angle, torso angle, handlebar width, and stem length, cleat adjustment, footbed fitting, saddle sizing, hip and knee placement, flexibility assessment, and structural assessment.  You do not need to be a competitive cyclists to benefit from the Advanced Fit.  We recommend this fit for anyone with special fit needs, injury, medical concerns, and reduced flexibility.  Allow one to two hours.

Triathlon/Time Trial Fit ($175.00, discounted as above, or free with purchase of time trial or triathlon bicycle)

This includes all of the above, but with at least a dozen other variables included as part of the placement of the torso and arms in the aerodynamic position.  This is an essential fit for anyone with aerodynamic handlebars or handlebar attachments, whether a casual rider or professional triathlete.  Expect to return for tweaks (they are included in the price of the fit).  Due to the involved nature of this fit, please allow two hours.

HOW TO SCHEDULE A FIT

Fits are typically scheduled on weekdays, mornings preferred, but we can make adjustments for your schedule.  Bring the pedals, cleats, and shoes you intend to ride.  Wear the normal gear that you would on a long ride.  Most bicycles need basic tuning before the fitting.  Be prepared to leave your bike off before the fit in this case.  Please do not assist our fitters in repairing or setting up your bike.  Our fingers and toes are precious!  If we have trouble getting your bike in the stand, we'll ask another staff for assistance.  Please remember to bring a sports beverage.
